Puppies up to 20 weeks old

For vaccinated pups aged up to about 18/20 weeks at the start of the course. Like all Teamwork Training classes, all training is reward (clicker) training. The class puppy/instructor ratio is kept low; normally not more than 3 pups per trainer. Like all Teamwork Training classes the emphasis is on you building a positive relationship with your pup.

We like to encourage all members of the family to come along to the classes so everyone learns how to work with the pup and we particularly welcome children.

The first week of the course is an introductory Foundation class where we look at how your pup learns and develops, and how to get the most from the classes. Normally (unless you are told otherwise) you don't bring your pup to the first class so you can concentrate and learn without having to control a wriggly puppy!

  • Coming when called
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Sit stay
  • Settle down and relax
  • 'Controlled' socialising
  • Dealing with puppy problems eg play biting, jumping up, chewing

Beginner family dog class for older puppes or adult dogs

For older puppies and dogs over 20 weeks (5 months) old at the start of the course, normally that are new to training, but dogs or puppies that have had previous training, or have done a previous Beginenr class are welcome. The first class is an introductory Foundation class where we look at how your dog learns (and mislearns!) and how to get the most from the classes. You don't bring your dog to the first class which will allow you to concentrate and learn without having to worry about what your dog is doing. The class dog/instructor ratio is kept low; normally not more than 3 dogs per trainer.

  • Coming when called
  • Sit and down stay
  • Walking on the lead
  • Using play to reward, exercise and motivate
  • Learning how to behave around other dogs...doggy manners
  • Understanding how your dog learns
This class is not suitable for dogs with aggression or excessive noise problems. One to one training, or the One by One class (see below), may be more appropriate. Dogs may need to be assessed before joining the class. Please ring if you are unsure if this class is suitable for your dog

Intermediate and advanced classes

Once you have some basic training under your belt and your pup (or adult dog) has basic manners why not progress your training and take your dog onto more advanced training? Dog training is a fun hobby which is a great way to give your dog an outlet for his energy. A great way to build a positive bond with your dog and understand each other better. No tests to pass; no pressure. :-)

'Follow on' Family Dog class

For dogs and older pups that have already been through some classes, but whose training needs some 'brushing up' and improving. Progress and review basic exercises like the recall, walking on a loose lead, stay, household manners etc, plus retrieving and other more advanced exercises. This class replaces the 'Intermediate Family Dog Class'.

Clicker workshop

An occasional course which will go through the full clicker training process. It will cover shaping, targeting and adding cues. See the bits you already know put into the 'big picture', learn some more and apply it to a range of tasks...some useful, some exploratory and some just plain fun. Suitable for all ability levels.

  • Heelwork. The dressage of the dog training world!
  • Recall
  • Stays
  • Retrieve
  • Introducing scent and sendaway
  • Using play and food rewards to advantage
  • Understanding the hobby of competitive obedience

Waiting list in operation. If you are interested in seeing what competitive obedience is all about, and want to come and watch, you would be very welcome. As with all Teamwork Training classes the emphasis is on a clicker approach, motivation and having the dog want and choose to work with you. If you think obedience is boring and the dogs end up like robots, this might just change your mind!

Specialist classes

'One by one' doggy social skills class

An innovative class specifically for dogs that find working in a group class difficult and show aggression, or barking, towards other dogs, but where positive training is still wanted.  Classes are not always weekly, but this allows you to have more time to work on your training in between classes and so the course is spread out over a longer period of time than usual which allows more time for improvement.

Gradual, controlled introduction and exposure to safe, non reactive dogs is part of the course. Most of the work will be carried out individually (while the other class members' dogs stay in their cars) with and around controlled 'stooge' dogs.  This class gives the advantages of one to one training at a more affordable rate, but with the ability to gradually introduce other safe dogs as and when your dog is ready to cope with them and you feel confident you can control and help your dog learn to behave more appropriately. No unpleasant aversives (eg shouting, choke chains, rattle cans, water bombs) are used.

Numbers strictly limited. At least one to one training session, or assessment, is usually necessary first.

Doggy 'Social skills' Support Group Meetings
Monthly meetings for current and 'ex' members of the 'One by one' class and owners who have been undertaking one by one training.  In a variety of locations, members work together in a relaxed and supportive environment to help each other in whatever they need to work on with their dogs. With guidance from Paddy (and her canine team if needed), it will give owners the opportunity to practice and review the skills they need to work around other people and dogs and gain the benefit of working with other owners who understand the problems and pressures in working with a dog that lacks social skills. Maximum of 5 dogs per meeting; may be less. Some venues may not be suitable for some dogs; Paddy will advise you if this is the case. Must be pre-booked.
