Links and resources

This page is a mixture of resources...some educational, some informative and some, hopefully, thought provoking. Intentionally rather random and serendipitous. :-)  No links are here because people have paid or 'swapped' links with me. They are here on their merit or interest only. Enjoy...and learn!

Teamwork Training in the media...

Training methods and behaviour

Teamwork Training uses training and behaviour modification techniques generally described as 'positive'. That means we do not physically manhandle dogs, or use techniques which may cause stress and fear. Boundaries and control are established through positive reinforcement and negative punishment. Definitions of these terms as applied to dog training can be found here. Training resources
Punishment and corrections?

Teamwork Training uses positive training and handling techniques and doesn't use punitive corrections. Why? Read on.

Thinking about breeding from your dog?

First look at what responsible puppy buyers should be expecting of any breeder (below). The issue isn't just about breeding pedigree or non pedigree dogs, or whether they are to be show or pet dogs, or registered with the KC or not.  Its about not bringing unwanted puppies and dogs into the world only for them to end up being put to sleep, or worse, live a life of stress, confinement and loneliness in some depressing shelter.

Recent Panorama prog on what happens to the thousands of stray dogs in this country. Someone, somewhere was responsible for bringing every one of those dogs into the world.

Article by Paddy Driscoll.

Think long and hard before bringing pups into this world.

Planning on buying a puppy?

If you want to buy a puppy, then plan carefully. DO YOUR RESEARCH! There are a lot of places to find information on how to find a good breeder. Try these for starters...
One Labrador breeder's FAQ (I don't know this breeder...but what she says is good)  and bearing in mind what she says about the Kennel Club, here is the KC's own advice. If you want to see some video to help you understand better how to pick a puppy, look here

Why your dog is smarter than a wolf

People sometimes say of their dog 'he knows he's done something wrong!' because he looks 'guilty'. Take a look at this study if you are one of them!

Competitive training
Loads of good information on all aspects of competing in a variety of disciplines. Most have links to all sorts of gems including items for sale (like dog guards), dogs wanting homes, schedules, rules and regs, dates of shows and events

Helping dogs and their owners

Lost a dog? Found one? These sites may be able to help. If its been lost in the Lincoln area please email Paddy so we can circulate the details locally.

If you need legal help (eg noise problems) Cooper and Cooper are widely recognised as the best (only?) specialist dog law firm.

Rescues

Why these? Because I know them and/or have an interest in them. I cannot be responsible for any dog you find through them though. Please check very carefully that the dog you take on has been assessed thoroughly. With some rescues it can be very much a case of caveat emptor.

Recommended local services

I recommend these because I have had first hand experience of their services and/or know them personally. I trust them to handle my dogs and treat them kindly and with respect.
  • Lincoln Pet Services is a pet sitting and dog walking service run by Victoria Rock, an experienced and reliable 'dog' person. She also does pet photography.
  • Microchipping.org is a local microchipping service run by Hannah Wright, a member of the Teamwork Training team.
  • Whitehouse Hydrotherapy at Sturton by Stow. Highly recommended! Sensitive and careful handling combined with conscientious expertise.
  • Christine East. Excellent McTimoney animal practitioner
