For
a lot of dogs that have not had appropriate socialising
as a young pup, or who have had bad experiences
as an adult, a group class can be too traumatic.
Some classes are scary and intimidating for a dog,
especially if the dog has been exposed to aggressive
dogs (and trainers!) at classes. Group classes are
only suitable for teaching dogs what you want and
for building a good relationship with you
in a distracting environment, they are not
suitable for socialising an undersocialised or fearful
dog. That has to be dealt with seperately in a carefully
managed way.
But the
dog still needs to be trained. This class addresses
the need for training, without the high costs of
one to one training, and with the advantage of being
able to introduce other dogs into the picture as
and when the dog is able to cope with them, in a
carefully managed way. Much of the work will be carried out individually while the other dogs stay in
their cars (hence the longer class time). If
leaving your dog in the car is likely to be problem
please speak to me before enrolling.Your
dog will only meet other dogs when it is appropriate
and safe to do so.
Suitable
for any age. It covers basic domestic exercises,
but given the nature of the class exercises can
be taliored more to individual needs than most classes.
