One to one training
and behaviour advice
Training and behaviour
advice where it is needed
and at a time to suit you. One to one training may help with specific
problems or if a class is neither suitable nor convenient. Sometimes
one to one training is the only sensible option. If your dog is
aggressive or nervous with other dogs, putting him or her in
a group class is likely to make the problems worse,
so one to one training is
the best way to start, gradually introducing
other dogs in a controlled way.
All training
is carried out with you present and you learn to
handle and work with your own dog. Your dog's behaviour cannot
be seen in isolation as you are a critical part
of the picture and we look at how you can handle
and manage situations so the training or behaviour
modification works better for you.
I do not
take your dog from you. You will see everything
that happens and so can be sure that no harsh methods
are used.
Domestic
behaviour advice and training One to one behaviour
advice sessions
normally start off in your own home. That's where the initial
assessment and work is best carried out. Training isn't just
about teaching your dog to obey commands, it is
about the relationship between you and your dog,
helping you to understand each other and how to teach your dog to
understand what you want. That usually means looking
at the whole picture. I normally want to meet the
entire family.
Sometimes group classes
are best, and very occasionally it might be appropriate for
a trainer to take your dog in to train him, but if you want a 'kick start' while you're waiting
to get into a class, or if you think some individual attention
will help without having to leave your dog with strangers, then contact me.
It may
be necessary for your dog to have a full health
check with your vet first to make sure there are
no health issues. Some "behaviour" problems
can have a medical reason. I will supply a written
report to your vet if you come to me through a formal
vet's referral.
Sometimes,
especially with puppies, it might be appropriate
to have just an hour's training, without the full
behaviour assessment. Starting off in your home,
progressing to outside if needed. If your dog is
showing any signs of stress, fear or aggression
then a behaviour assessment is needed.
